ABI Research Inc have announced new mobile projections saying that they expect the 14% of mobiles shipped in 2008 being smart phones to increase to 17% in 2009. They also predict that this will happen against a 2.5% drop in overall mobile phone shipments. They also report an understandable but significant drop in demand on all phones in the last two quarters of 2008.
ABI also released 2008 global year-end numbers on the 1.21 billion mobiles shipped; Nokia Corp. 38.6%, Samsung 16.2%, LG Electronics 8.3%, Motorola 8.3% (a drop of 5%), Sony Ericsson 8%, RIM 1.9%, Kyocera 1.4%, Apple 1.1%, HTC 1.1%, Sharp 1% and all others at 14% .
