If the later then there will be consequences could far greater than a few business closures.Martyn Danielshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02134633193540004531noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-35428618.post-11184265804970371752011-04-15T08:15:19.735+00:002011-04-15T08:15:19.735+00:00Interesting post and does show that the digital re...Interesting post and does show that the digital reader audience is increasing, though the UK still seems to be lagging behind the US in uptake.

During a recent holiday (cruise) there were less than 100 eReaders (Kindle being the most) out of around 2,800 passengers covering a broad range of ABC's. As all had arrived on board via airlines, I would have thought using the 'less-weight' argument that there would have been many more.

Perhaps this year will see a bigger surge in the sales of eReaders in the UK.mjmukhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04445871521297621681noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-35428618.post-85895326188453122592011-04-15T01:03:26.841+00:002011-04-15T01:03:26.841+00:00This backs up what I've suspected based on wha...This backs up what I've suspected based on what friends are saying. Smell and feel of paper aside, serious readers do take to ereaders such as the Kindle. It makes carrying a book (or several) about with you much easier. And with all our societal chatter about 'killing trees' digital also makes people feel less guilty about buying a book they read once and discard.

This isn't to say there isn't a downside to some players in the digital age. Radio stations are loosing out to iPods and now TV stations to iPads. Getting show and movies via broadband cuts out local TV stations and movie theaters.

I doubt these non-reading activities will hurt reading. People who only read because there was nothing else to do long ago turned to other media. The remaining core of readers want to read and quite a few of them will read more on Kindles and Nooks than they did in a world of paper.Michael W. Perryhttp://www.InklingBooks.com/noreply@blogger.com
